This is the policy for DrivingSathi 2.0.0. Read the current policy.

DrivingSathi ("the app") is an independent app developed by Sagar Chapagain ("we", "us"). This policy explains how the app handles your information. In short: everything you enter stays on your device, and the only data that leaves it is what Google's advertising service collects to show ads.

Information we collect

DrivingSathi needs no account or sign-in, and we never receive your study progress, your vehicle records or your licence details.

Two things do leave your device, and only these. The app records anonymous usage events so we can see which features are used, and when ads are shown Google's advertising service collects data from your device to deliver them, described under Advertising below. Nothing else does.

Your progress and content

Study progress kept by the app, such as your model-exam attempt history and any bookmarks or preferences, is stored only on your device. It is not uploaded to us or to any server.

Records you keep in the app

From version 2.0 the app can hold the details a vehicle owner needs: your licence details (number, categories, issue and expiry dates), your vehicles (name, plate number, engine capacity, insurer and policy number), their renewal dates for the blue book, third-party insurance and the pollution check, and your trip, fuel and service logs.

All of it is stored only on your device, by you, for you. It is never uploaded, never sent to us, never shared with an advertiser, and never used to target ads. We have no server that could receive it and no account that could hold it.

You can change or remove any of it from within the app, and every screen that holds these details says on-screen that they stay on the phone.

Usage measurement

DrivingSathi records a small number of anonymous usage events so we can see which parts of the app are actually used and where people get stuck. Examples: a practice bank was opened, a mock exam was started or finished, a traffic sign was viewed, a vehicle record was saved.

Each event carries only what it needs: which feature, which category, whether an answer was right, and whether the build is the development or the released one. Never the contents of your records. Your licence number, your plate, your insurer, your policy number, your dates and your logs are never part of an event and never leave the device.

There is no account and no profile. Events are not tied to a name, an email or your advertising ID, and location is not looked up from your IP address. The measurement service we use is PostHog, which receives these events and holds them under its own privacy policy.

This is separate from advertising. Nothing measured here is passed to Google or used to target ads.

Advertising

DrivingSathi may show banner ads supplied by Google AdMob. Ads are not shown in every version of the app, and they may not appear immediately: a new install might see none for its first several uses, and some screens never carry them at all.

When ads are shown, Google collects information from your device to deliver and measure them, including your advertising ID, IP address, general location derived from that address, device type and operating system, and how you interact with the ads shown.

We never see this data ourselves. It goes to Google, and Google's use of it is governed by its own privacy policy and by How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Nothing you record in the app is ever used for advertising. Your exam attempts, vehicle records, licence details, and trip, fuel and service logs stay on your device and are never read for ads or sent anywhere.

Ads appear only on browsing screens. There are none on the model exam, the practice quiz, the eye test, or any screen where you enter your own details.

Ads are requested with a general-audience content rating, so the material shown is suitable alongside road-safety content.

Your choices about ads

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, DrivingSathi asks your consent before any ad is requested, and shows no ads until you answer. You can change or withdraw that answer at any time from the app's More menu.

Wherever you are, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings, under Google → Ads.

Links to other websites

DrivingSathi may link to official or third-party websites (for example, transport-authority pages or a map search for driving centres). These links open in your device's browser or maps app. We do not share your information with those sites; once you leave the app, the destination site's own privacy policy applies.

Not affiliated; study aid only

DrivingSathi is an independent study aid and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official product of the Department of Transport Management or any government body. Its content, including questions, signs and the eye-test screen, is for practice and information only and is not a substitute for official materials or a medical eye examination. Always confirm current rules, questions, and fees with official sources.

Third-party services

DrivingSathi uses Google AdMob for advertising, as described above. It uses PostHog for the anonymous usage measurement described above, and no other tracking. Every study feature works fully offline; only ads and usage events need a connection.

Data retention & deletion

Everything the app keeps, including your study progress, your exam history and the vehicle, licence and log records described above, lives on your device. Deleting the app, or clearing its data in your device settings, permanently removes all of it.

Data collected by Google for advertising is held by Google under its own policy, not by us. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device settings under Privacy → Ads.

Children's privacy

DrivingSathi is not directed at children under 13. We collect no personal information from anyone, and ads are requested with a general-audience content rating.

Security

Your data never leaves your device through the app, so its security is governed by your device's own protections.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Previous versions remain available.
