NewsButton Release History
Newest first. Every version listed here is live on Google Play.
2.2.0 · 16 September 2026
Search the headlines themselves, and the app’s own buttons, headings and settings in English or Nepali.
- Two languages, your choice: the app now supports Nepali and English. Switch between them from More → Settings. Nepali is the default, and headlines stay in the language each outlet publishes in
- Search stories, not just sources: tap the magnifier and search for topics in Nepali or English to find relevant stories
- Search now covers each source’s latest page and your saved stories, helping you discover recent news instead of searching through an archive
2.1.0 · 5 September 2026
A page index for jumping straight to any outlet or section, outlets you can star, and a For you row built from what you read on this phone.
- Jump straight to any outlet or section from the scope row
- Star the outlets you read most and they sit at the top of the sources list
- A For you row suggesting stories like the ones you read. It builds up on your phone as you read, so it takes a few days to appear
- The Nepali date notification now explains itself before Android asks to allow it, and More shows you how to turn notifications back on if they are off
- Two more newsrooms, Nepal News and Farakdhar, taking the directory to 109 sources
- NewsButton now measures which features get used, never which stories you read. The privacy policy describes exactly what that collects
2.0.0 · 26 August 2026
A Nepali patro in its own tab, a redesign throughout, and two new kinds of outlet. NewsButton carries banner ads from this version.
- Nepali patro: the month grid, the day’s tithi, festivals and public holidays, and the countdown to the next day off
- Auspicious dates published by Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti, month by month
- Exchange rates from Nepal Rastra Bank and the daily gold and silver rate, each with a chart
- Today’s Nepali date in the notification shade and on your home screen
- Notes you can keep against a date, on the device only
- A rebuilt shell: News, Calendar and Sources, with business, tech, English, health and literature as scopes inside News
- 107 sources, adding health and literature outlets
- “Also covering this”, showing which other newsrooms carry the story you are reading
- “Just in” and trending subjects on every scope
- Faster feeds: canonical addresses and a windowed fetch, so slow outlets no longer hold up the page
- Banner ads from Google AdMob, on browsing screens only and never inside a list of headlines
1.0.1 · 11 August 2026
Top stories, browsing by subject, and the source list grown from 39 outlets to 88.
- Top stories: what several outlets are covering at once, at the top of each tab
- Browse by category: follow a subject across every outlet covering it
- English-language outlets added, with an EN/NE switch where an outlet publishes in both
- A first-run tour, and in-app updates from Google Play
1.0.0 · 25 July 2026
First release. A reader for Nepal’s news, business and tech outlets in one scroll, taken from the headlines each publishes publicly for reuse, with every story opening on the publisher’s own site.
- Headlines from Nepal’s news, business and tech outlets in one place
- Two ways to read: a digest per source, or one merged newest-first timeline
- Every source in one searchable directory, reorderable and hideable
- Save stories to read later
- Share-market portals listed as links, never aggregated
- Nepali-first typography built for Devanagari, light and dark themes
- Opens instantly offline with the last headlines
- No account, no ads, no tracking (ads arrived in 2.0.0, and anonymous usage measurement in 2.1.0)
Older versions
1.0.0 was the first public release, so this page is the complete history. The privacy policy as it stood for each version is kept at Privacy Policy history.
About this page
NewsButton updates through Google Play, and the app offers an update in place when a newer version is available. If you want to know what changed before updating, this page and the “What’s new” section on the Play listing carry the same notes.
